Gambling Harm Reference Card – Folded Postcard Size

There are several signs that gambling may be causing harm. All staff who supervise gambling should be familiar with the signs of gambling harm and know what to do when they are observed.

Gambling Host Responsibility Guide for Venue Staff - A5 booklet

This guidance has been developed to support all frontline staff who supervise gambling in Class 4 venues. It contains information about legal requirements and simple steps that all staff can take to meet their responsibilities.

Make copies of this available to all frontline staff. It can also be used as part of ongoing staff training and induction for new staff.

You are legally required to have harm minimisation signage up in your venue that is clearly visible to all people who gamble.

By displaying at least one of these posters in the gambling area you will meet that requirement. These messages are particularly relevant to people who gamble that are experiencing a high degree of harm. We recommend different versions, as people who gamble relate to different messages.

There are other areas that you can place this poster, including the bathroom, beside an ATM machine and/or near an outside smoking area.

This poster is to make people who gamble aware that staff may approach them. This is a useful reference for supporting staff interactions with people who gamble.

Place at least one of these posters up in the gambling area so that it is clearly visible to all players. You may like to place the second copy in the bathroom, beside an ATM machine or near an outside smoking area.

Host legal sign A4 (English)

Like with alcohol, this sign is to make people who gamble aware of the law. This is a useful reference for staff interactions with people who gamble.

Put a sign up beside the bar (with your existing alcohol signage). You may like to also place it in the entrance to the gambling area.

Wallet leaflet holder - cardboard (for counter display)

This is designed to hold about 20-25 of the wallet sized leaflets. Put the cardboard display card case on a table in the gaming area/between machines or at the bar closest to the gaming area. Venues have also reported that leaflets kept in the bathroom (a decreet location) are most likely to be used be patrons.

"Spending more on pokies" Wallet leaflet (pack of 25)

Free

This discreet wallet-sized leaflet is designed for people who gamble that might be experiencing harm. Venues are legally required to provide information about the odds of winning and the characteristics of harmful gambling. These leaflets meet that requirement.

Place in the gambling area for people to pick up or beside the bar so that staff can hand a copy to people who gamble. Venues have also reported that leaflets kept in the bathroom (a discreet location) are most likely to be used by patrons.
