Minimising Gambling Harm filtered by Chinese
Te Tari Taiwhenua Department of Internal Affairs and Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora have updated the Gamble Host resources to reflect the 2023 amendments to the Harm Minimisation Regulations 2004.
The suite of Gamble Host resources provides education, guidance and training packages to societies, clubs, and venues that manage class 4 gambling. They include:
- leaflets and posters for use with people that gamble
- quick reference resources for use on the floor inside venues
- guidance for venue managers and staff to help carry out their responsibilities
- training tools and resources for people who deliver training to staff that supervise class 4 gambling.
You can get further information on your responsibilities when providing Class 4 gambling on the DIA website.
Our Safer Gambling Aotearoa campaign aims to increase awareness of the early signs of harmful gambling. It encourages people to seek help and take positive action early, both for themselves and for those they care about.
Health NZ promotes these messages at a national level and works with various services around the country to promote these at a local level.
You can visit the Safer Gambling Aotearoa website for more information.
"Spending more on pokies" Wallet leaflet - Chinese (Simplified) (pack of 10)
Our discreet wallet-sized leaflet has been translated into Chinese. This is designed for people who gamble that might be experiencing harm. Venues are legally required to provide information about the odds of winning and the characteristics of harmful gambling.
These leaflets meet that requirement. Place in the gambling area for people to pick up or beside the bar so that staff can hand a copy to people who gamble. Venues have also reported that leaflets kept in the bathroom (a discreet location) are most likely to be used by patrons.
Comes in a pack of 10 leaflets.

Harm Minimisation Poster "Spending too much" A4 (Chinese - Simplified)
You are legally required to have harm minimisation signage up in your venue that is clearly visible to all people who gamble. This poster has been translated into Simplified Chinese.
By displaying at least one of these posters in the gambling area you will meet that requirement. These messages are particularly relevant to people who gamble that are experiencing a high degree of harm. We recommend different versions, as people who gamble relate to different messages.
There are other areas that you can place this poster, including the bathroom, beside an ATM machine and/or near an outside smoking area.

Host legal sign A4 (Chinese - Simplified)
Like with alcohol, this sign is to make people who gamble aware of the law. We have translated the legal sign into Chinese as a useful reference for staff interactions with people who gamble.
Put a sign up beside the bar (with your existing alcohol signage). You may like to also place it in the entrance to the gambling area.
