Te Whatu Ora is a Crown entity established under the New Zealand Public Health and Disability Amendment Act 2000.

We have a Board that is appointed by the Minister of Health.

Te Whatu Ora has an overall statutory function to lead and support activities for the following purposes:

  • Promoting health and wellbeing and encouraging healthy lifestyles.
  • Preventing disease, illness and injury
  • Enabling environments that support health and wellbeing and healthy lifestyles.
  • Reducing personal, social and economic harm.

It also has specific statutory functions to provide advice and research on alcohol-related issues.
